Embedded Linux expertise

Rrap Software has expertise in the embedded Linux space, including porting of Linux on an Analog Devices (ADI) chip. We can port Linux for your business as well, to ensure you can begin the journey to royalty-free licensing today!

Linux is the most popular UNIX-like operating system in the world, with millions of users. In the embedded market, Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) are used in the majority of high-performance embedded systems.

However, Linux now offers most of the RTOS-like functionality and has hence significantly penetrated the market for embedded operating systems. This trend shows no sign of stopping - so much so that proprietary RTOS vendors are now themselves re-positioning themselves as embedded Linux providers.
There are several reasons for the rapid rise of Linux in the embedded OS market, such as:

  • Linux is free of royalty charges
  • The skills-base is constantly increasing because the pool of people who know it and use it is rapidly increasing
  • Continual increase in functionality due to the large user-base
  • Developing new drivers is relatively easy, particularly because source code for existing drivers is readily available
  • Because of the availability of many tools, development time can be reduced
  • Open source licensing enables developers to build highly customized and portable application
  • The licensing model is flexible, so that proprietary drivers and application code can be mixed, resulting in a wider range of applications can be used on Linux

  • Further, Linux is very stable - Linux-based systems have worked for months or even years without crashing. It is thus widely considered to be a robust and stable technology.
